Our Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

SITUATION:

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) selected BOND to provide construction services for the expansion and renovation of CHA’s 12,000 SF Emergency Department. This multi-phased project included the construction of a new triage room, treatment rooms and 1,700 SF of administrative offices. The scope of work also included renovations to the waiting room and nurses’ stations, door upgrades, lighting and flooring.

CHALLENGES:

  • Construction completed in a fully operational active Emergency Department
  • Level 4 ICRA required through each phase of the renovation
  • Anti-ligature installations per Joint Commission requirements

SOLUTIONS:

  • BOND created a specific site safety and security plan for Emergency Department expansion and renovation
  • Maintain a QA/QC program utilizing BIM 360 technology
  • Each phase of the project was reviewed and approved by hospital leadership prior to construction
  • Weekly meetings with the owner, user group, design team and our staff contributed to moving project forward
  • Close collaboration with architecture team provided a smooth transition to occupancy and close out

RESULTS:

  • Emergency Department patient volume increased to 40,000 annually
  • Cambridge Health Alliance maintains its status of having the shortest wait time in the state of Massachusetts
  • Emergency Department can now safely accommodate patients that require bariatric and psychiatric care
