SITUATION:
Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) selected BOND to provide preconstruction and construction management services for the renovation of the Science Center Lecture Halls C and D. The project began in June 2018 with the renovation of the C & D lecture halls and was completed in August 2018. The scope of work includes a complete mechanical upgrade, fire protection, new seating, lighting, carpet and acoustical ceilings.
CHALLENGES:
- Located in tight urban congested area, adjacent to several occupied buildings
- Fast-track schedule
- Extensive upgrades to the HVAC system which included installation of custom-designed new technology
SOLUTIONS:
- Consistent collaboration with client and design teams on design solutions, cost and schedule
- Ensured safety, logistics planning and mitigation protocols were in place before construction began
RESULTS:
- Improvement to lighting, seating, flooring and millwork
- Completed construction with minimal disruption to faculty, students and residents
- All work safely completed on time and within budget
